Lies
"Nothing will happen, come on, it's Christmas, we’re all supposed to be better people." How many times have we whispered this phrase to ourselves like a secular prayer, hoping it were true? It is the lie we tell ourselves to survive the fear. It is the denial that allows us to set the table with the red cloth, pretending not to see the raging elephant in the room.
But reality is cruel: most tragedies occur exactly when we lower our guard, magically convinced that the calendar or the decorations can halt the violence accumulated over months of resentment. Ignoring danger signs does not make them disappear; it feeds them, giving them space to grow in the shadows. Unfounded hope is the worst enemy of prevention, because it disarms us precisely when we need our shields the most.
