The Empty Chair
Tomorrow evening, when the candles are lit, there will be an empty chair in many homes across Italy. It will be the chair of someone who underestimated that envious "acquaintance" who seemed harmless. The chair of someone who mistook obsessive possession for great love. The chair of someone who didn't have the strength to ask for help out of shame. The silence of that chair will scream louder than any Christmas carol—a terrible warning to those who remain.
But in another house, just a few miles away, there is a chair that is occupied. It belongs to Giorgio, the protagonist of our first story.
