Psychotraumatological and criminological analysis of family homicides: ONOF weekly report (December 18-24, 2025)

Abstract

This study analyzes the incidence and dynamics of "family homicides" recorded during the week of December 18 to 24, 2025. Through the application of the A.S.V.S. (AIPC Scientific Violence Screening) integrated scientific protocol, this investigation aims to map the profiles of victims and perpetrators, exploring demographic, geographic, and relational variables. The multidisciplinary approach integrates psychotraumatology and psychophysiological assessment to understand violence as a circular phenomenon, offering new evidence-based clinical tools for prevention and intervention.

Introduction and methodology

The Italian Association of Psychology and Criminology (AIPC), founded in 2001, operates through a multidisciplinary team in synergy with the Italian Center for Relational Psychotraumatology (CIPR) and the National Observatory on Homotransphobia (ONOF) to address violence in all its forms. The methodology adopted in this report utilizes OSINT (Open Source Intelligence), analyzing data extracted from news reports published by journalistic outlets. This monitoring allows for the tracking of "family crimes," namely homicides, attempted homicides, and suicides occurring within significant relationships (acquaintances, relatives, or emotional bonds).

Psychotraumatological framework: C-PTSD and Traumatic Resonance

Relational forensic psychotraumatology interprets these events not as isolated acts, but as the tragic outcome of severe emotional dysregulation. At the root of many dysfunctional relationships, there is often a trauma modulated by primary emotional systems (FEAR, RANGER), which can evolve into C-PTSD (Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder). The partner paradox and interpersonal traumatic resonance explain how, in these contexts, the victim and the perpetrator remain trapped in dynamics where the threat system is constantly activated. This transforms the emotional bond into a deadly battleground where the "other" is no longer perceived as a secure base, but as an imminent danger.

Profile analysis of the alleged victim of family homicide

In the week under review, the analyzed sample shows an equal gender distribution among total victims (50% men and 50% women). However, narrowing the analysis specifically to completed homicides, a specific pattern emerges:

  • Gender and Age: 100% of the homicide victims are female, belonging to the 36-53 age group.
  • Familiarity: In homicide cases, the victim was killed by their Partner (100%). In the broader category of "family crimes" (including attempted cases), 50% involve acquaintances.
  • Geographic Distribution: The homicides occurred in the South and Islands.
  • Weapon Used: A sharp weapon (knife) was used in 100% of the homicides to harm the victim.

Profile analysis of the alleged perpetrator of family homicide

The perpetrator's profile mirrors the gravity of the relational dynamics described above:

  • Gender and Age: 100% of the alleged perpetrators or confessed offenders are male. The perpetrator of the homicide belongs to the 36-53 age group.
  • Familiarity: Consistent with the victim's profile, the alleged perpetrator targeted their Partner.
  • Geography and Method: The perpetrator acted in the South and Islands using a sharp weapon. Additionally, the suicide of the perpetrator via defenestration (jumping from a height) following the homicidal event was recorded.

Conclusion

The emerging data highlight the urgent need to intervene at the roots of relational violence. Education and psychotraumatological healing are the only tools capable of breaking the chain of traumatic repetition. Violence is not an inevitable fate but a signal of deep dysregulation that requires specialized listening and care.

If you feel that your family dynamics are influenced by past traumas or if you recognize yourself in a high-risk situation, do not wait. AIPC and CIPR offer assessment and support pathways to help you regain balance and safety.
