INTERNATIONAL SUMMIT IN ROME: SCIENCE AT THE SERVICE OF PREVENTING VIOLENCE AND DOMESTIC HOMICIDE

ROME, February 13, 2026 – Stopping violence before it becomes irreparable through scientific risk assessment and trauma treatment. This is the objective of the International Summit "From C-PTSD to Pet Therapy," to be held at the Sala Tevere of the Lazio Region, marking the 25th anniversary of the Italian Association of Psychology and Criminology (AIPC).

The event integrates the expertise of AIPC, CIPR (Italian Center for Relational Psychotraumatology), and ONOF (National Observatory on Domestic Homicide) to offer concrete solutions to the dramatic recurrence of proximity crimes. The Summit is organized in collaboration with Hakuna Matata, Medea ODV, and Media Partner Casa Radio.

Participate in our survey: "Valentine's Day between emotion and convention"

We are conducting an investigation aimed at young adults between 18 and 30 years old to explore how Gen Z and Millennials experience Valentine's Day. The goal is to analyze whether this occasion still represents a moment of authentic emotional connection or if it is perceived primarily as social and commercial pressure. Your contribution is vital to outlining new relationship trends and the perception of couple bonds today.

Preventing domestic homicide: The V.E.R.A. Protocol

The core of the meeting will be the presentation of the V.E.R.A. Protocol, a cutting-edge clinical tool designed to break the cycle of violence. Data collected from the centers in Rome and Pescara demonstrate how monitoring the window of tolerance and emotional dysregulation is the key to preventing the "acting out" (passaggio all'atto).

"The V.E.R.A. Protocol represents the watershed between the condemnation to repeat trauma and the concrete possibility of healing, offering a scientific way out of domestic violence."

Scientific evidence and international speakers

  • C-PTSD Focus: A keynote by Thanos Karatzias, one of the world's leading experts in the treatment of complex trauma, a factor often decisive in the dynamics of abuse.
  • The Proximity Paradox: Analysis of ONOF data on how and why violence occurs predominantly within affective bonds, and why analyzing the degree of familiarity is essential for risk profiling.
  • Technology and Prevention: A demonstration of how measuring vital parameters (HRV, GSR, stress) allows for the objective assessment of the risk of recidivism and violent acts.
  • Self-Regulation: Presentation of Pet Therapy as an intervention to stabilize Hyper- and Hypo-arousal, bringing the individual back within their window of tolerance.
