Summary of the webinar "THE WHAT, THE WHY, and THE HOW of VIOLENCE", held on November 13, 2025, for Continuing Psychology Education (FCP) by Massimo Lattanzi.
The presentation analyzed the phenomenon of violence through an integrated approach based on the synergy between AIPC (research and training), CIPR (clinical practice and assessment), and ONOF (statistical monitoring). The talk was structured to answer three fundamental questions.
The "What": Data on family homicides The analysis begins with ONOF data, collected via OSINT sources, relating to the first nine months of 2025. Total Data: During this period, 136 family homicides were recorded. Victim Distribution: Contrary to media perception, ONOF data shows a complex reality: Male Victims: 72 (equal to 52.9%) Female Victims: 64 (equal to 47.1%)
The "Why": The Traumatic Root of Collapse The statistic (the "What") does not explain the "Why" a conflict degenerates into homicide. Judicial Relational Psychotraumatology identifies the cause not as a logical choice, but as a structural collapse of the capacity for self-regulation.
Origin: At the root of this collapse is almost invariably C-PTSD (Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder), stemming from chronic relational trauma. Effect of trauma: C-PTSD drastically narrows the "window of tolerance", which is the optimal state for clear thinking and healthy relating. Dysregulation: The individual chronically lives outside this window, trapped in survival states: Hyper-arousal (Sympathetic): "Fight or flight" mode, constant anger and anxiety. Hypo-arousal (Dorsal Vagal): "Freeze" mode, dissociation, and emptiness.
The "alarm-control" fracture: A split occurs in the brain. The Amygdala (alarm) becomes hyper-active and interprets neutral stimuli as mortal threats. Simultaneously, the Prefrontal Cortex (logical control) becomes hypo-functional, and the logical "brake" fails. The violent act: This "amygdala hijack" leads the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) into chronic dysregulation (accelerator always pressed, brake inefficient).
The violent act, in this context, is not a choice, but a somatic reflex: a short circuit through which the body discharges neurobiological tension that has become intolerable. (It is specified that this reading is not a justification).
The "How": Measure to treat The third part defines "How" to intervene for prevention and treatment. If the reasoning system is offline, you cannot just ask the person to "reason". The Approach: It is necessary to measure the collapse before rehabilitating it. This is the field of Judicial Relational Psychotraumatology.
The Protocol: CIPR uses the ASVS (AIPC Scientific Violence Screening), an integrated assessment that combines:
Psychotraumatic History: Use of tools like the SVITR (Relational Traumatic Impact Assessment Scale).
Psychodiagnostic Evaluation: Definition of the personality profile.
Psychophysiological Evaluation (Biofeedback): This is the crucial point. It measures the "automatic pilot" (ANS) in real time. Biological Markers: Data like low Heart Rate Variability (HRV) or high Galvanic Skin Response (GSR) do not lie.
They objectively show the "biological signature" of dysregulation (a weak brake and a stuck accelerator). Objective: Only after objectively measuring this fracture is it possible to begin a path to rehabilitate the Autonomic Nervous System. Join us and the professional volunteers of AIPC, CIPR, and ONOF to explore the "What, Why, and How" of this complex phenomenon.
It will be a unique opportunity to acquire awareness, tools, and innovative perspectives. Here’s where and when:
